There is no authoritative public count of postings that correspond to a real vacancy

In a survey of 1,641 hiring managers conducted in May 2024 and published on 18 June 2024, four in ten companies said they had posted a job listing that year that was not real, and three in ten said they were currently advertising a role that was not real.

Those are self-reported employer figures from a single survey. No government agency measures how many live postings correspond to a real, open, funded seat, so no authoritative public count exists.
